Shahih Muslim is considered the second most authentic of all collections of Hadith (sayings and deeds of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) after Sahih Bukhari. Imam Muslim (Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj) lived in the 3rd century AH or 9th century CE. He extracted 4,000 hadith out of a total of over 300,000 to be included in his collection.
